The Rocket Summer - Of Men And Angels

The Rocket Summer is the solo rock project of Bryce Avery. Having released his first EP in 1999, at only 16 years Bryce has been working away for the past decade. He’s released 4 full-length albums and toured all over the world. There is no doubt about it, Bryce Avery is one of the hardest working men in the music industry. Of Men and Angels is Avery’s 4th full length album, and has already hit the number 1 spot in the US Album charts.

Opener ‘Roses’ draws you in with the classic Rocket Summer guitar riffs and Avery’s perfect vocals layered above. Next single Walls is a softer ballad, showing a more sensitive and subtle side to The Rocket Summer. The strings add a lot to the song, and are expertly arranged. ‘I Want Something To Live For’ is more of a pop track than the rest of the album; but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It shows variety to the album and is yet another great tune. ‘Hey!’ is another song worth a listen, with gang vocals galore.

First single, ‘You Gotta Believe’ is more guitar driven than some of the other tracks on the album. Avery’s vocals soar above the band, and make this song a very enjoyable listen. Second single ‘Hills And Valleys’ is a stunning song. The piano and band intertwine and form perfect melodies. Listening to songs like this remind you that Bryce is an amazing song-writer and musician. The hand claps add a new texture to the album, and the guitar riffs build on that even more. The sing-along chorus. and beautiful lyrics add to the overall listening experience at all.

Closer ‘Lights’ shows a softer side to the whole album. The bridge shows real emotion, and proves yet again how talented Mr Avery is. The album as a whole is expertly produced, with everything done just right. It is a truly inspirational album. Most albums, you find only a few really amazing songs. This album, you find only a few songs that aren’t incredibly. This is surely going to be the album that’ll launch Avery’s mainstream breakthrough.

Overall, the album is fantastic. Definitely worth a listen. Bryce Avery only ever gets better at what he does, yet he always changes it up a bit so it can’t get boring. He is truly one of the most talented men in the music industry, and deserves a lot more credit than he is given. The best album of this year, so far.
